School Done Differently
Freire Wilmington was founded in 2014 to help students get into college. Six years later, the results are clear and compelling: 98% of Freire Wilmington’s Class of 2019 were accepted to at least one college or university. Already this year, our current seniors have been accepted to more than 200 colleges and universities. On top of that, Freire’s Class of 2019 raised over $6 million in scholarships and financial aid.
The Classes of 2020 and 2021 faced a unique set of challenges with COVID-19, and more students opted to take a gap year due to uncertainty about the pandemic’s impact on college. But, the Class of 2021 still made impressive strides toward their college goals, with 79% of graduates accepted to at least one college and more than $4.6 million earned collectively in scholarships and aid.

“My teachers at Freire made my dreams into possibilities for the future. They made me push myself forward and keep the mindset that I am needed, I am important, and it’s okay to be different.”
Hannah, Class of 2021

“You need to decide if you’re really willing to succeed in the future. If you want to get a head start on going to college, Freire’s a good place for that.”
Victoria, Class of 2024

“You need to be challenged early on so you can face challenges in the future and in college. It’s not like other schools. It’s not like you come to school, do your work, and get out. You come to school to be a part of the Freire family.”
Joshua, Class of 2020

“There’s no tolerance for bullying, no fighting. That was what made me realize this was the right school for me. We’re all a family, and you have a voice here. If you tell a teacher something is going on, they’ll help you.”
Spirit, Class of 2022

Why Start with 8th Grade?
Leaving middle school can be hard, but an extra year of college-preparatory academics can make the difference between getting into a college that’s “good enough”—or truly thriving at the great college you deserve. Plus, starting 8th grade at Freire means joining a community of motivated, high-achieving peers to learn and grow together for the next five years.
8th grade is a critical year to start a college-preparatory education. Why wait another year to find the right school?
Does Freire Wilmington charge tuition?
