CBOC

Freire Charter School Wilmington is currently recruiting additional members to serve on its Citizen’s Budget Oversight Committee (CBOC). Pursuant to, 14 Del.C. §1508, the CBOC will work in the spirit of teamwork with the Board of Trustees to ensure the fiduciary health and integrity of the charter school.

The CBOC will be comprised of at least five (5) members, including:

representation from educators and parents of students in the school and representation from the Department of Education
where possible, the CBOC shall have at least two members with formal educational or vocational backgrounds amenable to oversight of school district financial statements.

The job description of the Freire CBOC shall be to:

attend quarterly meetings of the CBOC;
receive access either electronically or in hard copy format to financial documents and financial information that are relevant to the financial position of the charter school, with redactions permitted only to protect confidential personal information regarding students or employees as permitted by the state’s Freedom of Information Act;
work collaboratively with and make recommendations to the Freire Charter School Wilmington Board of Trustees regarding the financial position of the charter school at monthly Board meetings;
each member of the CBOC shall attend and receive a Certificate of Completion for the CBOC training within three (3) months of subsequent appointment to a CBOC;
not to receive compensation for service on the CBOC.
