Admissions FAQs

What grades will Freire Wilmington serve in the upcoming school year?
Freire Wilmington serves grades 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12.

What is the deadline to submit an application?

If your application is received before the second Wednesday of January, a lottery will be held if the number of applications exceeds the number of open seats. If there are still seats remaining, Freire Wilmington will be accepting applications on a first-come, first-served basis. Apply now to secure your spot at Freire!

Does Freire charge tuition?

No. Freire Charter Schools are free public schools, and there is no cost to attend.

How will my child get to and from school?
Freire Wilmington offers a range of transportation options, including bus routes that travel throughout New Castle County, as well as the option of free DART passes for students.

Does my student need to live in Delaware/Wilmington?
Freire Wilmington is open to all students who are residents of the state of Delaware. Students must be Delaware residents.

How do I enroll my student at Freire Wilmington?

There are three ways to apply to Freire Wilmington:

  1. Apply online through the Delaware School Choice website. Applying online is the fastest and easiest option, and allows Freire to process your application as soon as possible. Click below to apply online.

  1. Download and print a paper application, then mail or fax your complete application to the school. You can fax your completed application to Freire Wilmington at at 302-380-7595, or mail it to us at 201 W 14th Street, Wilmington, DE 19801.

  1. Visit Freire Wilmington to deliver a completed application or apply in person at the school. Visit us between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM Monday through Friday at 201 W 14th Street, Wilmington, DE 19801.

As required by Delaware law, families may also apply to Freire by printing and completing the DE Standard Application for Educational Options: English / Español

How will I know if the school has received my application?

After you apply, you will receive a letter from our Admissions Office within two weeks confirming that we have processed your application. If two weeks have passed and you have not received a letter, please contact the Admissions Coordinator at admissions@freirewilmington.org.

Does Freire Wilmington offer an enrollment preference for siblings of current students?

Yes. Siblings of current Freire Wilmington students will receive preference in Freire Wilmington’s admissions process.
